Lighting Design for Restaurant
The main challenge for this restaurant was adapting the design concept to the existing space. The client’s goal was to make minimal architectural changes to the space. The architect in turn, added elements independent of the space without changing the integral architecture, such as the wooden partitions and the lattice ceiling decoration. Paul Gregory and Michael Cummings of Focus Lighting created simple, yet elegant lighting solutions that enhanced the environment of the space without making major structural changes.
One of the main design features of this restaurant is the latticework on the ceiling above the main dining space. The white criss-crossed lattice beams stretch across the dark ceiling and are cross-lit by surface mount fixtures mounted to the sidewalls. The ceiling was painted black so that the lattice would stand out more in the space.
Individual tables are lit with pin-spot downlights hidden between the lattice structures on the ceiling. Custom glowing chandeliers hang over the main dining space. Each chandelier is made up of individual “fish scale” pieces of orange glass, internally illuminated with LED’s.
